It was the beginning of summer when I decided to go visit the date farm and see how the workers were doing. I entered through the gate and was greeted or more like attacked by the pack of dogs. I go to the packing house and could see the new green dates hanging from the date palms. As soon as I got out the smallest dog rushed towards me. I stood still and asked what was wrong. Don’t you recognize me. She smelled me and all was okay. Then I went into the orchard inspecting the various date palms. The dates did not resemble medjool dates they were small and green and obviously have a long way until they become medjool dates. I ran between the rows of date palms with the dog. We had a good time and I lost about 5 pounds worth of sweat in the process. I was wearing a hat that got caught in the leaves of the smaller date palms. The dog was panty hard and as she got hotter and hotter her tongue got longer and longer. Finally we were back by the date packing house and I was ready to collapse. It was just to hot. The date palms look nice, but there were a few areas that needed weeding. The dates were all green, but it looked like we would have a decent crop of medjool dates. Finally everyone was ready to go except for the dogs that get to stay and guard the medjool dates mostly from occasional squirrels and bunnies.
