I was driving through a street in Santa Ana and noticed they had an awful lot of date palms. The whole median in Bristol had a bunch of date palms. Some bearing fruit, not the best of fruit probably, but it seemed like they were edible dates. Could not tell if they were medjool dates or any other type of dates. As I looked around I noticed there were an awful lot of date palms. Date palms are often used instead of trees, because they are much easier to maintain. They may need maintenance about once every three years or even longer and the water requirements to keep them going are minimal. If there is not need to get a nice crop of dates there is really no need to water. Date palms normally don’t produce dates in humid or areas with too much rain. As ornamental date palms the palms do just fine in many warm environments.
