Medjool date palms and other palms are often specified by architects for many city projects. The primary reason is that you get a nice green palm that is not shedding leaves all the time and that will not grow out of control. Date palms are very popuplar because they are low maintenance and because they are nice to look at. They are relatively expensive fully grown about $100 per linear feet and up, but they make up for it in savings from maintenance and low watering requirements. If the palm does not get enough water it actually produces less fruit which is an added bonus since maintenece is even lower. Got to love the edible date palm.
