The fourth of July weekend is an awesome three day weekend. More so for the fact we have all decided that we should enjoy an extra day off. We forget that it is a celebration of a birth of a nation. Even though it is more commonly referred as to as independence day. It is really not so much that we are no longer under British control, but the fact that a new nation was born. A great nation. A nation that takes all the malcontents from around the world. We gather together and complain about everything. We are in effect a nation of complainers and it is one of a few nations were it is okay to complain all you want. Of course it is more than a nation of complainers, it is a nation of great opportunity. It is also a nation of multi cultures where all types of ideas and things blend. It is why we have the medjool date. It is not just about the medjool date, perse, but we only talk about how the world revolves around dates here. For medjool date palm the weekend is just another hot weekend where the date palms are in danger from the intense heat. Come winter the desert becomes a spectacular attraction where every day is likely to be sunny and mildly warm and where thousands of tourists leave their cold climate homes and come enjoy the weather. They will photograph the date palms and the fruit starting to ripened and go the Indio Date Festival and enjoy a few dates, but mostly other junk food.
