Medjool Dates Fruit & Medjool Date Palm Trees

I think most people don’t realize that Southern California is all desert.  It is ideal for growing date palms.  Not all of southern California is good for growing dates, but all of Southern California is good weather for growing the date palm.  The desert has advantages because vegetation grows faster, ironically the desert is ideal for growing vegetation including fruits, vegetables, trees, and palms.  Dates grow well in the desert, but date palms also grow much faster than in other parts of Southern California.  Not all fruit trees grow in fruit int the desert, but the desert is ideal for growing the tree itself, but the fruit itself may not develop because you need chill hours, meaning it has to be pretty cold to grow certain fruits.
