Sometimes late at night look out the window and there is so much light pollution it is like day time. I miss the land, medjool dates are not the only thing you can grow per se. There all kinds of things you can grow, and I suspect many of us are sad to be working in our non agricultural jobs, and even those that work in agriculture are probably not happy because they are not doing what was typically done on a farm. I am of the opinion that we are all wanting to play with the soil and grow food, to grow our food and perhaps do a little hunting for food. Not too many of us crave getting into a lot of a paperwork, but a lot of crave getting a new life in the country where we can grow our own organic grown food. Probably not a a diet composed primarily of medjool date, or any other date for that matter, but a variety of things. Many of us dream or think about living in the country where we grow our on grains, vegetables, chickens, pigs, and cows. I would image that it must innate, our desire to farm must be in our blood, the desire to grown our own food seems to be a universal thing. Some even argue that we should have more farmers and fewer city dwellers, even farmers in modern day society, are not real farmers, they often are in charge of running a business and hire specialists. Some are machine operators, some do manual tasks, and some harvest and package product for sale. It is an odd society we live in where noone seems to know how to grow food anymore. Farms are businesses where workers are specialists not farmers, yet we all crave to be farmers. It the near future I suspect we will have lots of farmers, after everyone decides that farming is the way to go and farming is the best quality of life.GHTime Code(s): nc nc
You would think that considering how expensive medjool dates are that medjool date orchard farmers would get a ton of money on their dates. The reality is that many medjool date farmers get very little for their dates. Some medjool date growers choose to sell their dates to the pack houses and distributors which in turn resell them at outrageous markups. The winner is the middle man. Not the hard working farmer that expends a great deal of time and energy to obtain the best results. Farmers grow food because they love the land. Farmers love growing stuff, working with nature and creating something of value. Farmers don’t focus on marketing and distributing their medjool dates or whatever produce t hey may have for sale. Farmers focus on production and quality. Every farmer wants to show the end product. Often you find that a farmer would produce and sell produce, fruits, and vegetables at a loss. This happens because farmers don’t pay attention to the profit. This holds true for farmers growing medjool dates. The big business and the middlemen understand that everything is a business, the small farmer grows hid medjool dates or whatever he happens to be growing for the joy of it.
